Tawi-tawi town vice mayor shot dead

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) – Vice Mayor Al Rashid Mohammad Ali of the municipality of Sapa-Sapa in Tawi-Tawi province was shot dead Wednesday afternoon, July 11, in Zamboanga City. 

Senior Superintendent Allan Nazaro, OIC city police director, said the victim died in the hospital after sustaining two gunshot wounds in his chest. 

The vice mayor was in the passenger seat of an Innova when the riding-in-tandem suspects shot him. A family member who was driving said they came from a mall and had passed by Governor Alvarez when the attackers came. 

The victim is the second vice mayor and the 4th local official to be killed in more than a week, and the 16th during President Rodrigo Duterte's term. (READ: Mayors, vice mayors killed under Duterte gov't)

On Saturday, July 7, Trece Martires Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan was shot dead in his own city.
